The homes are part of Parc Fferm Wen, a Barratt development that will see 253 two, three and four-bedroom homes built in the area.
Hafod will be taking handover of 43 of these homes, made up of 10 apartments and 33 houses.
The development, which is just a short drive to Llantwit Major and Cowbridge, includes sustainability features such as bat and bird boxes, new wildflower meadows and a biodiversity area. In a scenic countryside location, and with play areas on site, Parc Fferm Wen also has great commuter links to Bridgend and Cardiff.
With 32 of the Hafod homes already occupied, the beginning of March saw eight new properties handed over to Hafod and customers have now started moving in. The remaining three homes are due for completion in summer 2025.
Nic Meredith, Hafod’s Development Project Officer, said:
“At Hafod we’re committed to investing for a better future by building the new homes people need and supporting communities to thrive.
“We’re delighted that eight more homes are now ready for our customers to enjoy. These homes have been built to the highest standard, providing energy efficient, affordable homes for people in St Athan.
“Our partnership with Vale of Glamorgan Council and Barratt Homes has enabled us to deliver 43 homes at Parc Fferm Wen and we look forward to seeing this development contribute to the areas continued growth.”
Cllr Sandra Perkes, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Public Sector Housing and Tenant Engagement, said:
“The Council is proud to be working with Hafod Housing and Barratt Homes to deliver this scheme, which will help address soaring demand for properties of this type.
“This is part of a wider house-building programme that has also seen a series of council developments completed over the last few years, with others on the way. It is vitally important work as we look to address the acute need for affordable homes in the Vale.
“We are committed to providing modern, comfortable, accessible, energy efficient accommodation for residents, homes they can be proud of. This is the latest example of that work and a project we are very excited to support.
“The green features of the development also align perfectly with our Project Zero initiative to become carbon neutral by 2030.”
Richard Lawson, Sales Director at Barratt David Wilson Homes South Wales, said:
“Our partnership with Hafod showcases our commitment to providing homes that will improve the wellbeing of communities in the areas in which we build.
“Our development in St Athan is no exception. Indeed, we’ve been proud to support a range of community initiatives here — from donations that will support technological upgrades for local hubs and organisations to fire repairs at St Athan Primary School.
“We look forward to continuing our work with Hafod — to enable the development and its community to thrive.”
