New build apartments in Llanilid

Hafod has partnered with Persimmon and Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council to deliver the new homes for social rent.

A mix of one and two-bed apartments and two-bed houses, the homes were handed over to Hafod at the start of February and residents are now beginning to move in.

In a prime location, close to the M4, the new homes have great access to local amenities as part of Parc Llanilid, a Persimmon development that sees the creation of over 1700 homes on the former open cast coal site.

Work began on the brownfield site in 2019 and longer-term plans for the development will feature a new primary school and village centre, including leisure, retail, and community facilities.

Nicola Meredith, Project Officer at Hafod, said:

“We are delighted to take handover of these new homes in Llanilid. They will help address local need for affordable housing and are part of Hafod’s ongoing development commitment to build the homes people need, homes that are warm, healthy and eco-friendly.

“The homes are in addition to 14 apartments and seven houses that were previously completed by Persimmon Homes for Hafod.  Our partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council and Persimmon Homes is helping us to deliver much needed high quality affordable housing, and we look forward to continuing our close working relationship.”

Councillor Mark Norris, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Development & Prosperity, said:

“Once again, our partnership with Hafod and Persimmon has delivered much needed affordable housing in the south of our County Borough. It's great to see these homes ready for residents to move into, and it's great to see the continued development of the Llanilid site delivering for people.

“Demand for housing, especially affordable housing, is very high in the local area and these homes are part of a wider development with community at its core.

“Working with partners such as Hafod and Persimmon to deliver homes for our residents is just one of the many actions Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is taking to create much needed homes, alongside our incredibly successful programme to bring empty homes back into use and our Extra Care schemes to provide independent living for older residents with support if required.

“I know that the new residents will love their new homes, and I wish them all the best.”

Stuart Phillips, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes West Wales, said:

“We’re delighted to have finalised the latest agreement with Hafod to deliver the next cluster of affordable homes

“This development is a major scheme that is delivering homes for many local families. and the latest proportion reserved for housing associations is a key part of our broader goal to create a positive and lasting legacy wherever we build.

“Persimmon looks forward to building on our partnership with Hafod as well as high-quality homes for local people.”
