Jayne Bryant on site indoors

The Lansdowne Road project is one of Cardiff’s largest social housing urban regeneration schemes, comprising of 106 homes, a mixture of family houses and flats; construction commenced in October 2025.

The scheme will transform this prominent city centre site into a vibrant, sustainable community, providing low carbon affordable homes to the residents of Cardiff. Revitalising the brownfield site is a collaboration between Hafod, Lovell Partnerships, Cardiff Council and Welsh Government.

The homes will be constructed to EPC A, adopting the “fabric first” principles and utilising air source heat pump technology, aiming to reduce energy costs for customers and the impact on the environment. Creating a low carbon living environment also sees the introduction of sustainable urban drainage principles to enhance biodiversity through thoughtful landscaping and wildlife habitat design.

The scheme received £16.5 million in funding through Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant, with Hafod providing £14 million in additional investment.

Jayne Bryant, Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government said
“Ensuring we have more good quality and affordable homes is a priority for the Welsh Government. We’re pleased to be supporting this development, which will offer a fantastic range of low-carbon homes for families and individuals alike.
“We all have a role to play in ending homelessness, and by working together we can achieve our vision for a Wales where everyone has a safe home that meets their needs and supports a healthy, successful and prosperous life.”

Neil Taylor, Head of Development at Hafod, said:
