The First Minister of Wales visited a retirement home to see how energy efficiency upgrades, like solar panels and new windows, are making a difference.

First Minister Eluned Morgan visits Hafod customers in St Mellons, Cardiff.

Hafod customers and colleagues spoke to the First Minister of Wales about energy efficiency works taking place at Arcon House, a retirement scheme in Cardiff.

Solar panels, funded by Welsh Government’s Optimised RetroFit Programme (ORP), are currently being fitted at Arcon House, and the installation of new windows will soon begin as part of Hafod’s Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) planned programme.

These measures are targeting improvements in the energy efficiency of homes, and seek to make heating these homes more affordable, as well as making the homes more comfortable.

Through ORP funding, Hafod is currently installing solar panels in 450 homes in a variety of locations.

Decarbonising existing homes is a key theme of Footprint, Hafod’s strategy to achieve net zero. This aims to make customers’ homes warmer, dryer and more energy efficient, to combat fuel poverty and promote better physical and mental health.

During her visit, the First Minister was also shown how environmental sensors, soon to be installed at Arcon House, will provide information about the air quality of the homes.

In the video below, James Loy, Hafod’s Assets Performance Manager, shares more about the First Minister’s visit, as well as the Aico environmental sensors at Arcon House.
