People in front of a house

As Hafod are getting ready to handover the four-bedroom family home on Cowbridge Road in Bridgend, Cllr Farr went to visit the new property.

Over the past 9 months, Hafod has partnered with Castell Group to redevelop an existing house to become an affordable home in Bridgend.

The building had been used as houses of multiple occupation (HMO) but has been refurbished back to a four-bedroom family home for social rent. Earlier in the year Hafod redeveloped the adjoining property into 2 self-contained apartments and developed 8 new apartments to the rear of these homes also in partnership with Castell Construction.

Hafod is committed to creating homes that are fit for the future, meeting the needs of customers now and in the years ahead.

Neil Taylor, Head of Development at Hafod, said:

“As a socially conscious organisation, focused on making lives better through building communities and making connections, Hafod is committed to helping tackle the housing crisis in Wales.

“By developing energy efficient, affordable homes, Hafod puts sense of place at the heart of its developments. The new homes are near local amenities, including supermarkets, public transport connections and employment opportunities.

"A heartfelt thank you to the Welsh Government for their generous contribution, made possible through the Social Housing Grant in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council."

Cllr Farr, Bridgend County Borough Council, said:

“The transformation of 75 Cowbridge Road, Bridgend, has been phenomenal.  Refurbishments undertaken by the Castell Group has transfigured the property into a welcoming family space.

“A four-bedroom property, designed to the Welsh Government’s Development Quality Requirements, the house will achieve the maximum energy efficiency certification (an EPC A), allowing tenants to experience lower fuel costs.

“We are so please that we can offer this affordable, high-quality accommodation which is conveniently close to town centre amenities for a local family to live in and thrive.”

Dorian Payne, Managing Director at Castell Group, said:

“We are proud to have partnered with Hafod on this important project. The refurbishment of 75 Cowbridge Road into a four-bedroom family home exemplifies our commitment to delivering high-quality, energy-efficient housing. This project not only enhances the local community but also provides a comfortable and sustainable living space for its new residents. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Hafod to address the housing needs in Bridgend and beyond.”
