The Panel will be made up of Hafod customers and colleagues, who will assess high level physical adaptation requests.
Physical adaptations may be required by our customers because their needs have changed since first moving into their home. This may be due to age or health issues.
When a customer needs an adaptation in their home, they contact us to update us on their changing needs, likely with a medical report or Occupational Therapist report.
Some of the adaptations needed by customers may be minor, such as a grab rail in the bathroom or a key safe box for carers to access the home. These adaptation works are low in cost and require minimal work in customers’ homes.
Larger adaptation works require greater funding and are considered major works, such as adding an extension or installing a through floor lift. In these cases, the request will be referred to our Physical Adaptations Panel.
Made up of Hafod colleagues from Assets and Housing, there are also three customers who will take part in the Panel and who offer a different perspective during the decision-making process.
Each of the customers’ taking part has experience of physical adaptations in their homes, whether for themselves or a family member.
Geraint Rees, Hafod customer and Panel member said:
“As someone who lives with adaptations in their home, I understand how difficult it could be without them. I want to be able to help others by making things easier for them to stay in their homes.”
Sarah Hancock, Head of Assets at Hafod, said:
“We’re delighted to be able to involve our customers in the decision-making taking place at Hafod. It’s great to get their input on our physical adaptation requests as their first-hand experience offers us a new perspective, encouraging our team to think in new ways.
“Physical adaptations can make a big difference to people’s lives, and we’re grateful that our customers are so willing to give up their time to help others.”
