At an organisation level I am keen to explore the art of the possible. Taking Hafod’s 5000 family housing (excluding supported housing, extra care, residential social care and nursing homes) to what extent is it already occupied by multi-generational households and under what circumstances. What are their experiences. Given the various property typologies what types of dwellings lend themselves to multi-generation household settings. What would be any planning or building standards implications. As a ballpark figure what investment costs would be associated with property adaptations. What would be any property valuation implications or lender considerations.
Separate to this would be work examining impact including evaluating the social benefits, which would be enhanced if this idea is seen more widely than a simple housing intervention but instead as part of wider social policy solution.
At an international level I have started tentative discussions with potential partners from France, Netherlands and Ireland to discuss the wider applicability of such a project involving a shared research and intelligence function and collaboration over a shared investment fund.
