Gareth's story

Gareth has been a Hafod tenant for a few years. During the pandemic he was unable to work and this resulted in his rent account falling to arrears. We worked with Gareth to make an affordable agreement and supported him in applying for a grant to help clear his rent arrrears which was successful and has helped in sustaining his contract.

Gareth explained how this had alleviated the financial pressure he was facing and has helped his well-being with less worry.

Becky's story

Becky recently contacted our coaches as she lost her job. The team supported Becky in applying for benefits, which was new to her.

They also made a referral for her to the local employability assistance programme and now Becky has secured better paid work. She was so grateful for the help and support she received during this period and is now more financially stable.

Hayley's story

Hayley approached our team initially for a maintenance enquiry but she opened up about her debt and financial worries. The team supported Hayley with getting her utilities in order and addressing her debt concerns, signposting her to relevant agencies.

Hayley had also enrolled on a course to enhance her digital skills, however due to a delay in benefits she was unable to afford the full cost so the team supported her in funding the course and transport. She has since secured a job in a local shop to support herself whilst completing her course.

Mr and Mrs W's story

Mr and Mrs W had fallen behind with their rent and were struggling to manage their property. Initially, they were reluctant to be open about the barriers they faced due to their fear of being judged, but through building mutual respect we were able to refer them for support and assist them in applying for relevant benefits and grants.

Through support and setting small goals, their property's condition has dramatically improved. The couple are no longer at risk of losing their home and there has been a significant improvement in their mental health and general well-being.
