Golau Caredig provides affordable independent living for people over 55 in 42 purpose built one and two bedroom apartments. All accommodation is available for rent on an assured shorthold tenancy basis and is built to a high specification, including full wheelchair accessibility. Individual care and support is provided by an ‘in-house’ domiciliary care team and a floating support service.

Golau Caredig, located close to Barry town centre, offers onsite facilities such as a restaurant, launderette, IT suite, hair salon, cafe and has great transport links to Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Extra Care can be a viable alternative to sheltered accommodation or residential care by encouraging independent living and providing a home for life with care and support services that can increase or decrease as the tenant’s needs change. It is suitable for single people or couples, where one or both have need of more supportive accommodation.

The Development was designed following input from the Design Commission for Wales and has been constructed by Leadbitter to achieve BREEAM (Building Research Environment Assessment Method) standards.

Living here

Golau Caredig offers 42 self contained apartments that support independent living, all of which are fully accessible and can be adapted to support physical disability.

Each apartment offers:

  • A modern fitted kitchen
  • A spacious living room
  • A bathroom with walk in shower
  • An emergency call alarm
  • Slip resistant floors to the kitchen and bathroom
  • Low surface temperature radiators controllable by the occupants

On site

We have a number of communal facilities including a restaurant, launderette, IT Suite, cycle/scooter store, multi-use activity area, hair salon and a cafe.

We believe that safety and security are key elements in creating a warm and homely environment. Therefore, we have taken additional steps to ensure safe and secure living at Golau Caredig.

 

Our colleagues

Golau Caredig is run by a highly experienced team who are dedicated to providing person centred care for every tenant. Our building management team works hard to provide a welcoming environment for all our visitors.

Tenants have support available 24 hours a day; either from our building management team, support team or domiciliary care team.

 

 

Activities

Golau Caredig has a fantastic community feel and there are different activities taking place each day. These are run both by our support colleagues and organised by our tenants – so that we can ensure the activities we provide are relevant and of interest to everyone.

We also invite external groups into the communal areas downstairs to really bring Golau Caredig to the heart of the community. It is our aim to eradicate loneliness and social isolation and we like to offer our services and free activities to all.
