Our ambition is to transform housing, health, social care and support in order to improve the well-being of our customers and our communities.

Hafod is a mission-led, values-based not-for-profit organisation focused on making lives better by building communities and making connections. We deliver high-quality affordable homes and support for people to maintain their independence and well-being for as long as possible. We also provide care to people in their own homes, in supported housing or in our residential care and nursing homes.

At Hafod, we don’t believe in strategy for the sake of it, it’s there to help us make a real difference. At the heart of everything we do is our mission, giving us a clear focus and bringing people together to create positive change. It’s all about teamwork, collaboration, and working towards a better future, both for our colleagues and the communities we support.

Why a mission and not a strategy? 

A strategy is there to help us achieve something, it doesn’t stand alone. At its core is a mission, which gives us a clear focus to work towards a vision of the future or tackle big challenges. Missions bring people together, inspiring teamwork and collaboration not just within our organisation but with others who share the same goal. They’re built to last, tackling long-term challenges. And the best part? Having a mission keeps us aligned with today’s political thinking, helping us stay relevant and ready for the future.

Our story

We began in 1968 as Hafod Housing Association with 300 properties in Cardiff, seven colleagues and a turnover of £100,000. Over fifty years later, Hafod Housing Association Ltd (Hafod) is one of the leading providers of housing, care and support in South Wales. We work across 8 local authority areas in Wales and help over 16,000 people each year. We employ over 1,200 colleagues and have a turnover in excess of £80 million.

Hafod is more than a provider of services, homes, or jobs. It’s a vital part of public services, impacting welfare, health, climate action, and community, while staying true to its roots in care, support, and housing.

Guided by the ‘Caring for the Future’ blueprint set in 2018, we’ve made significant progress. We’ve embedded strengths-based working in communities, secured the future of care services and started a journey of service transformation. Now it’s time to build the momentum and create a future around big challenges, strong communities, services and homes designed in harmony with people’s lives.

Our group structure

Hendre Limited is the parent organisation of the Hendre Group. The Group comprises Hendre Limited (the ‘parent’), Hafod Housing Association Limited, Hafod Resources Limited, Foundation Housing Tai Sylfaen (the ‘subsidiaries’) and Yellow Wales, a subsidiary of Hafod Housing Association Limited.
