What is housing-related support

Housing-related support in Wales is a flexible service funded through the Housing Support Grand (HSG) that helps people live independently and prevents homelessness. Services are tailored to individual needs and can include help with budgeting, managing debt, finding employment or training, and maintaining a tenancy. The goal is to help people gain skills, confidence, and support to maintain a stable home and improve their overall well-being.

Hafod provide housing-related support services across five local authorities in south Wales with the aim to prevent homelessness or support those that are homeless to gain, and maintain, permanent accommodation successfully.

Our services are person-centred and strengths based, focusing on what matters to each individual and what people want to achieve from life, and how to make this possible, rather than focusing on barriers and limitations.

We have implemented psychologically informed environment (PIE) Practice into our support services provision. It involves a framework for understanding the “why” behind behaviours, particularly for individuals with complex lifestyles or have lived through trauma. By understanding the emotions behind actions, this approach aims to create safer, more therapeutic, and supportive environments for people. This training and practice framework alongside Hafod’s principles and behaviours underpins our approach in Support.
